About the Company
Indigenous Climate Action (ICA) is an Indigenous-led climate justice organization that works to build Indigenous climate leadership through community-based education, relationship building, and movement support. Our work centres Indigenous rights, sovereignty, land-based knowledge systems, and climate justice across Turtle Island.
ICA is seeking a skilled web designer and developer to redesign and develop our organizational website. The new website will serve as ICA’s primary digital platform for storytelling, education, campaigns, research, fundraising, and community engagement.
The redesigned platform should reflect ICA’s organizational values, strengthen accessibility and usability, and support long-term growth and sustainability. As a web designer and developer at ICA, you will play a critical role in helping us achieve our mission and goals.
Key Responsibilities
We are seeking a web development partner capable of delivering a redesigned and accessible organizational website, improved site architecture and user experience, a flexible and maintainable content management system, migration and retention of existing content and resources, technical documentation and staff training, and ongoing maintenance and support options post-launch.
- Conduct meetings with ICA staff and key stakeholders to understand project requirements and objectives
- Review existing website structure and digital assets to identify areas for improvement
- Assess audience needs and user journeys to inform site architecture and design decisions
- Provide recommendations for site architecture and platform improvements to enhance accessibility and usability
- Develop a responsive website design that is accessible across desktop and mobile devices
- Integrate ICA branding and visual identity into the website design
- Implement SEO and performance optimization techniques to improve website visibility and engagement
- Ensure accessibility compliance and implement security best practices
- Develop a content management system that is flexible and maintainable
- Migrate and retain existing content from Squarespace, including blog posts, reports, and organizational resources
Requirements & Qualifications
Must-Have
- 5+ years of experience in web design and development, with a focus on accessibility and usability
- Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with experience in responsive web design
- Experience with content management systems, such as WordPress or Drupal
- Knowledge of SEO principles and performance optimization techniques
- Strong understanding of accessibility principles and WCAG 2.1 AA standards
- Experience with website migration and content retention
- Strong communication and project management skills, with experience working with stakeholders and team members
Nice-to-Have
- Experience working with Indigenous-led organizations or communities
- Knowledge of land-based knowledge systems and climate justice principles
- Experience with website analytics and performance monitoring tools
- Knowledge of security best practices and website security implementation
- Certificate in web development, design, or a related field
Technical Skills
Cloud & Infrastructure
- AWS or Azure experience
- Cloud-based content management systems

Databases
- MySQL or MongoDB experience
- Database management and optimization
We use databases to store and manage our website content and user data, and experience with database management is necessary.
CI/CD
- Experience with continuous integration and deployment tools, such as Jenkins or GitLab CI/CD
- Automated testing and deployment scripts
We use CI/CD tools to streamline our development and deployment process, and experience with these tools is an asset.
